Besides much of the testing scoring, grading and inputting that I was in charge of at SCCFC, the interns were also assigned projects to be working on. Many of the projects I had involve organizing client files and relocating them, but my supervisor also has a side company called Learning Works For Kids, in which he finds games and apps that are beneficial to helping children who struggle in school. His main goal is to be able to use technology in a fun, friendly and educational manner to help engage children in school and other work, that they may normally have trouble doing. Questionnaires about children's game use is optional to all parents who come into SCCFC, and my supervisor uses this information to get a look at what kinds of games children play, how much time they spend playing it, and if they use it for educational purposes. After the forms are filled out by the parents and children and collected, they are entered into a statistical software called SPSS (similar looking to Excel) and then scored. After this, the information is compiled and tests are run to get the data needed to make his recommendations. The Brain Grade is how my supervisors other company, Learning Works For Kids, tests the games that they recommend as educational and helpful for certain things. The game testers use these forms to grade different categories about each game. |
